The Retail Tracker was launched in 2006 after it became increasingly evident that there was a void in the market for In-Store Intelligence for both Brands and Retailers. Our clients–retailers, brands and investors are actively involved managing their businesses to spend the necessary time in the stores, analyzing developments, the competition, and emerging trends. At the core of the firm is our constant store walking and online monitoring to deliver opinionated views, proprietary analysis and consulting advice to our clients.

Senior partners have experience working in and with consumer brands, retailers, and e-commerce companies. We communicate our assessments through written reports, active dialogue and in person meetings. We offer both a core product based on our intelligence work as well as customized analysis that dives deeper into both a client and their competition. This work includes idea generation to propose new areas of revenue growth.


Mark Friedman

Co-Founder and Managing Partner

Mark Friedman has more than 30 years of experience in the consumer and retail industry as an Entrepreneur, Manager, Research Analyst, and Strategic Advisor. During his two decades as a Senior Research Analyst at Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers and Goldman Sachs he was ranked on the Institutional Investor annual survey of best analysts in three different sectors- Advertising, Apparel/Footwear and Specialty Retail. In his last role at Merrill Lynch he was also a Group Head managing a 17 person team of Retail Analysts. Mark served on the Board of Iconix (2006-2019) when it was publicly traded and served through 2012 on the private board of Canadian based Roots. Mark received an M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and a B.B.A. from the University of Michigan.
